Scientists estimate that 1 in 3 of us will develop dementia.

Women are more likely to develop Alzheimer’s than men.

It is possible to grow new brain cells! I have put together a list of things proven to stimulate brain cell growth – these will help you to improve your memory, concentration, thinking skills and overall brain function. It is also thought that ‘neurogenesis’, or new brain cell growth will improve many aspects of your physical and mental health.

Alzheimer’s is a form of dementia that causes memory loss, speech & language impairment  and difficulty thinking. It is due to a build up of amyloid plaque and ‘tangles’ which destroy nerve cells. There is currently no effective treatment to treat the disease once it has set in, but there is plenty of research to show that we can help prevent symptoms to reduce the risk of this happening. Plaque is found in many parts of the body including our blood vessels, teeth and brain. The level of plaque depends upon a number of genetic and lifestyle factors.

Deep sleep clears amyloid plaque that has built up throughout the day, hence why a healthy sleep pattern is so important. Heart disease, high cholesterol and high blood pressure increase the risk of plaque build-up, as does diabetes. It is important to exercise regularly, eat a balanced diet and avoid sugar and alcohol.

Stimulate Your Brain

Alzheimer’s disease destroys neurons, a vital part of the nervous system. It is possible to ‘out-run’ the disease by rebuilding neutrons faster than they are being destroyed.
