How long do appointments last?

Our appointments last approximately one hour to allow an initial in depth consultations to identify and diagnose the source of your pain, and prevent future flare ups. Our health and wellness experts consider your medical history and lifestyle factors to provide personalised treatment. Return appointments also last an hour to improve treatment outcome and maximise your relaxation time.

Does it hurt?

Occasionally patients feel a little sore 24-48 hours after treatment, but this usually improves quickly. Patients describe it as similar to post-exercise soreness.

Do I have to undress?

Traditionally osteopathic examinations and treatments are done with the patient in sports gear or underwear. This is to allow proper assessment of the posture and improve the feeling (palpation) of the joints and muscles beneath the skin. You do NOT have to undress if you do not feel comfortable doing so. If you do remove clothing we will use towels to ensure your comfort.

Will I have exercises?

Treatment is only a small percentage of your day and it is important to recognise that what you do outside of the clinic will have a large impact on your pain and recovery. Your osteopath will discuss in detail exercises and bespoke lifestyle advice that you should try to adhere to as best you can. We understand how busy life can be and will endeavour to create realistic exercise programmes for you. It is completely up to you whether you want exercises or not.

Do I have to be in pain to visit an osteopath?

Not all patients have pain. some just want to learn more about preventative health and visit us for a quarterly 'MOT'. Our philosophy is that knowledge is power, and if you know exactly how your body functions, and areas for improvement, you have the tools to prevent future flare ups and take control of your aches and pains.

What happens if I do nothing?

Most minor injuries will heal quickly with good care and nutrition, however, some injuries left undiagnosed or untreated may lead to more tissue damage that might be even more difficult to treat in the future. It is always worth seeking professional healthcare in the first instance.
